“Life Is But a Mist”

Ecclesiastes 12:1-8; 13-14

James 4:14

1) Whether you use the word mist, vapor, or fog, the point is life goes by quickly.

2) Life is short. Eternity is long. We need to prepare for eternity.

3) The meaning of the phrases may be as follows:

Ecclesiastes 12:3

  • Keepers of the house – arms and hands tremble
  • Strong men are bent – your legs, knees, back and shoulders weaken. Men who were once strong now walk bent over.
  • The grinders – are your teeth
  • The windows – are your eyes

Ecclesiastes 12:4

  • The doors shut – you go out less
  • Sound of grinding low – your hearing
  • Rise up with birds – can’t sleep
  • Songs are brought low – singing voice

Ecclesiastes 12:5

  • Afraid – of heights
  • Terrors on the way – afraid of falling or big crowds
  • Almond tree blossoms – gray hair
  • Grasshopper drags itself along – slower and stiffer in movement
  • Desire fails – sexual

Ecclesiastes 12:6

  • Silver cord – bad back
  • Wheel broken – loss of memory
